Portal of Light by Avyukt Ohri.
A tall, vertical shaft of yellow and orange light is the heart of this large canvas. It runs from top to bottom like sunlight pouring through a gap in a forest, or a molten waterfall lit from within. Around it, dense blocks of teal, deep red, rust and charcoal are laid on with chunky, confident strokes, so the surrounding colors feel like walls or trees pressing in on the glow.
The paint is thick and sculptural. You can see where the brush or knife dragged and dropped color, leaving ridges and rough edges that catch the real light in the room. In the lower section the composition shifts: the bright column breaks into warmer, softer tones and a reflective band, as if the light had reached water and were pooling there.
At this scale the painting becomes an experience more than an image. It is dramatic, warm and a little mysterious, and it rewards both distance, where the column dominates, and close viewing, where the layers of color reveal themselves.
