Figures in the Green
A vivid green field fills the canvas, scratched and layered with strokes of yellow, gold and darker green. Within it, tall black figures stand in loose formation, some curved and some straight, their long bodies tapering like shadows. A few carry touches of gold, as if catching light.
The figures echo the standing people in Horizon Line, but here they are surrounded by color and texture rather than open space. The vertical cracks and marks running through the green give the impression of tall grass, forest or the rhythm of a crowd.
It is a painting about presence and silhouette. The bold contrast between the black shapes and the bright ground makes the figures feel strong and quietly dignified.
