Silver Rays
From a single point near the center, fine silver and white lines shoot outward across a dark ground of black and gold. The lines vary in length and thickness, which gives the image a feeling of speed, like light racing past a window or a star cracking open.
The black background is not flat. Flecks of gold and smoky patches show through, adding depth and a hint of warmth to the cool silver. Where the lines cluster, they almost seem to vibrate.
The painting is dramatic and high in contrast. It can be read as an explosion, a burst of fireworks, shattered glass or a journey through space, and it has the kind of energy that draws the eye straight to the middle.
