Ember by Avyukt Ohri
The painting is almost entirely monochrome, with one striking exception: a glowing orange sun, the only colour on the canvas. It sits directly behind a dark, serrated peak painted in dense black strokes that catch faint streaks of light. A small flock of birds crosses the sky to the right of the sun, adding scale and a hint of movement.
In the lower half, churning waves of grey, white and charcoal build up in thick, expressive texture. The surf crashes around the base of the mountain with real energy. The fiery disc against the cold, muted landscape gives the work a cinematic, almost mythic mood. It’s powerful and quietly unsettling, and it holds the eye.
