Two Windows – A deep teal field fills most of the canvas, but it is far from flat. The surface is scratched, scraped and layered, with darker marks and lighter veils of color showing through, like an old wall that has weathered many seasons. In two opposite corners, rectangular panels of gold and ochre interrupt the blue.
Those panels can be read as windows, doors, fragments of gilded plaster or pieces of an unfinished mural. Their warm tone gives the cool field a point of entry, and their placement, one high on the left and one low on the right, creates a diagonal rhythm across the picture.
The palette is limited, but the texture makes it rich. This is a quiet, architectural painting with a sense of age and memory, and it would sit comfortably in a contemplative space.
